The Clinton Global Initiative University (CGIU) is a University network aimed at engaging students around pressing global challenges in five focus areas:
UNIL is a CGIU member, which opens opportunities for UNIL students to take their ideas forward and possibly win access to a year-round program that includes access to: high-touch mentorship; a social impact curriculum; funding streams; and student engagement events, including the CGI U 2021 virtual annual meeting hosted by Howard University.
Check out the experience of the UNIL delegation at the San Francisco meetings.
Students, either individually or in groups, apply by creating a Commitment to Action (action plan). These commitments should be ideas and actions that address social or environmental challenges on campuses, in communities or in different parts of the world at a small or large scale.
UNIL students whose projects are approved both by CGIU and UNIL may also win seed funding from UNIL (up to USD 2,000 per project).
For UNIL students an info session is organised Wednesday December 2nd, 12:15 - 12:45, and Tuesday December 8th, 12:15 - 12:45. Register here to obtain the Zoom link.
CGIU organises info sessions accessible online here (3.12, 16.12).
The CGIU meeting, that will take place online in 2021, brings together selected students representing over 75 countries, university representatives, topic experts, and celebrities who share there experience during a day of exchanges.
CGIU meeting 2016 at the University of California Berkeley, in San Francisco.
Projects range from the creation of a soccer ball that generates energy, a post-conflict sports league, a youth nutrition course, an empowerment program for blind and visually-impaired students in Lebanon and many more! Since 2008, students have made more than 4,800 Commitments to Action, and more than USD 1 million in funding has been awarded to these commitment-makers.
Applications are open. Apply by January 15, 2021
Applicants must be enrolled with UNIL (bachelor, master of PhD levels) and have sufficient English skills to interact in the programme.
Applicants will be informed directly by CGIU of the result of their application and by UNIL if seed funding is approved.
